Interesting and great to see how the Frew...'s site is filling out! I have a question on the arms being used on the Frewing site.
As far as I am aware there have been grants of arms to a Frewen and a Frewin but not to Frewing. The Frewing website shows arms, crest and motto but they are those of "Frewen" (according to "Fairbairn's Crests") - but I am not sure to which Frewen they were granted or registered. Edward Frewen (19th C) used these exact arms on his book-plate. However, Thomas Frewen of Linccoln's Inn in 1711 used a different shield, incorporating the same arms in the upper left(sinister) quarter of his shield with the motto "Christo Duce Vincam." The other quarters contain stags heads, boars heads and a cross. The Thomas Frewen who wrote the book on innoculation had a diffeent set again. The common feature on all is the caltrap. Has anyone done any research on the Frewen/Frewin Arms? Can the Frewings justify their use of them?
