: Looking for information about H.J. Fruin. He first turns up in Shanghai on the staff of the "Far Eastern Geographical Establishment," a cartography firm, in 1918, and later worked in the newspaper business for many years.

Hello there,

We don't have anything on H. J. Fruin, but I was very surprised to find a couple of entries for Frewin's from China in the 1901 census, and I wonder if they might not be related - they might be incorrect surname spellings perhaps.

You can see the entries for

Ada H Frewin at

http://www.the-net.co.uk/cgi/igmget.cgi/n=freawine?I08025

and

James C Frewin at

http://www.the-net.co.uk/cgi/igmget.cgi/n=freawine?I09790

I have no idea of these two Frewins are related, or connected to H. J Fruin, but these are the only two records I have found so far that mention China.
