I am researching my maiden name of Fruen. I found your message of Fruin. I have seen my ancestors' names written Fruin. I do not know if I have a connection to this spelling of the name.
I have had no luck in finding anything on my great grandfather, Joseph Fruen. He was born in Eng abt 1834. He is found in Monroe AR in 1861, when he married Cordelia Dickerson, a widow with three children. J C Fruen or Fruin enlisted in the Conferate Army in 1862. This enlistment took place in Clarendon, Monroe Co AR. So, he may well be my Joseph Fruen. Joseph is on the 1870 census of Monroe Co AR and the 1880 census of Yell Co AR. His son William Edward Fruen is on the 1910 census of Scott Co AR. Cordelia died in 1919 in Scott Co AR at Will's home.
I am still searching for information on Joseph's death. I am writing you all this in hopes of matching up data. Joseph immigrated to the US from England. However, I have found nothing that tells me when or where he came into port. Nor do I know if he came alone or with parents and siblings. He could have changed the spelling of his name along the way. He could have been Fruin instead of Fruen. I have his spelling in both ways on the few documents that I have. However, my father spelled it Fruen.
Any help you could offer would be appreciated. Thanks a million.
