The name Fruin or Frewen does not appear in Black's 'The Surnames of Scotland' but on p. 282 he does mention the Old English personal name 'Freowine'.
Johnston's 'Place names of Scotland' gives the derivation of the Glen's name as likely to be Gaelic 'fraon' - 'place of shelter among the hills'
The Battle was between the MacGregors and the Colquhouns - not the Campbells.
