: Not good photos of Shirburn Castle , I lived there with my parents in a flat
: above the garages ( formerly the stables ) your picture of the castle is of
: the estate office which was totally removed from the castle , had you gone
: a little further then maybe you may have got it right !

You are right Jackie.

I saw an article in The Times the other day about Shirburn Castle. It seems that the real parts of the castle are out of sight, and as the public aren't allowed in the grounds without prior permission I didn't get anywhere near them.

There has apparently been a long running dispute over ownership of the castle which has just been settled in the courts, so hopefully some changes will be made to access arrangements for the castle itself. It would be great if it could be opened up for the benefit of the public, and presumably quite a moneyspinner for the owners and local businesses too.

Some Frewin's were born and registered in Shirburn Chapel in the 18th & 19th Century, hence the reason for my original visit.

If you have any photo's of the actual castle that you are willing to share, please do send them over and I will post them for the benefit of those with links to the area.
